DESCRIPTION:Delivered Live Online via Zoom.\nThe Understanding Access and Universal Design in Streetscapes and Activity Centres one-day course provides participants with a practical understanding of access and Universal Design principles as they apply to streetscapes\, activity centres and the public realm. \nThe course explores how streets\, pedestrian environments and public spaces can be planned\, designed\, managed and maintained to support equitable access\, participation and inclusion for people of all ages and abilities. \nParticipants will gain an understanding of the challenges experienced by people with disability\, older people\, parents with prams and others who may encounter barriers within the built environment. The course examines the legislative framework that underpins access requirements and introduces participants to the key standards\, guidelines and design principles that influence accessible streetscape outcomes. \nThrough practical examples and case studies\, participants will learn how common streetscape elements can either create barriers or support inclusion\, and how access and Universal Design considerations can be incorporated into planning\, design\, maintenance and upgrade projects.\nThe course is designed to build awareness and confidence in identifying access issues and contributing to more inclusive public environments. \nWhat You Will Learn \nUpon completion of this course\, participants will be able to: \n\nUnderstand the importance of access and inclusion within streetscapes and public spaces.\nRecognise the challenges experienced by people with diverse mobility\, sensory and cognitive needs.\nUnderstand the principles of Universal Design and their application to public environments.\nInterpret the intent and application of key access legislation\, standards and guidelines.\nIdentify common access barriers within streetscapes and activity centres.\nUnderstand practical solutions that improve access\, safety and usability.\nContribute to planning\, design\, maintenance and upgrade projects with greater consideration of access for everyone.\nCommunicate more effectively with stakeholders regarding access and inclusion outcomes.\n\nThis course is ideal for anyone involved in the planning\, design\, management or maintenance of public spaces. \nParticipants will receive a Certificate of Attendance upon completion of the course. \nLocations and Dates:\nDelivered Live Online via Zoom: 14 July 2026\, 10.00am – 4.30pm\, Melbourne Time. \nThis course can be hosted ‘In house’ for organisations.
