We are excited to announce, that effective from 1 July 2025, Livable Housing Australia (LHA) has chosen to hand over responsibility for the registration and administration of LHA Assessors to Access Institute. This is in addition to the training of LHA Assessors that Access Institute has undertaken for the past 12 years. This transition follows our longstanding partnership with LHA and reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting and advancing the adoption of the Livable Housing Design Guidelines in Australia.

Access Institute has worked in close collaboration with LHA to promote inclusive and more livable housing in Australia. As the demand continues to grow for homes that exceed the minimum livability requirements of the National Construction Code (NCC), we are excited to expand our services in this important area.

Access Institute will now:

  • Manage registration of professionals who wish to become or continue as certified Livable Housing Design Guidelines (LHDG) Assessors
  • Issue rebranded Assessor logos for use by Assessors in advertising services
  • Deliver accredited training programs in the Livable Housing Design Guidelines and Universal Design principles
  • Issue rebranded LHDG Assessment Forms and Compliance Certificate templates
  • Host a public register of certified LHDG Assessors on the Access Institute website
  • Provide support to Assessors where relevant.

Important Notice for Current LHA Assessors

As of 1 July 2025, all existing LHA Assessor registrations with Livable Housing Australia will lapse. From that date, former LHA Assessors will no longer be authorised to:

  • Conduct assessments or certify designs/as-built dwellings under the LHA framework
  • Register assessments with LHA or use LHA logos or Assessment and Certification forms
  • Promote themselves as LHA Assessors or be listed on the LHA website.
All current LHA Assessors have been contacted with details on how to transition their registration to Access Institute. If you are an Assessor and wish to continue providing LHDG Certification services, you must complete this transition.

If you have any questions or need assistance with the transition process, please contact Access Institute at [email protected]

‘I have wanted to do the course for the past couple of years but going to Sydney or Melbourne has always prohibitive being away from my young family. I was really impressed with the content and I learnt a lot from the course. Thanks again to Joe and the other presenters.’ — Tom Clark, Access Consultant, NW Access Consultancy
