Become equipped to undertake assessments of Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) dwellings against the NDIS SDA Design Standard.
This course has been developed for professionals who wish to become Accredited SDA Assessors, as well as those seeking a comprehensive understanding of the SDA Design Standard and its practical application.
The course provides detailed instruction on assessing both design-stage documentation and completed (as-built) dwellings for compliance with the SDA Design Standard. In addition to the core requirements of the Standard, the course has been expanded to include extensive guidance on the practical application of the Design Standard, incorporating clarifications and assessment interpretations that have emerged through the implementation of the SDA program. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how the requirements are interpreted and applied during real-world compliance assessments.
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) funds Specialist Disability Accommodation for eligible participants with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs. Before an SDA dwelling can be enrolled with the NDIS, it must be independently assessed for compliance with the SDA Design Standard by an Accredited SDA Assessor.
The SDA Design Standard comprises four design categories:
- Improved Liveability
- Fully Accessible
- High Physical Support
- Robust
This course examines the technical requirements for each design category and provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to undertake consistent, evidence-based assessments.
The course is open to anyone with an interest in Specialist Disability Accommodation. Participants may attend the training and complete the online examination regardless of whether they intend to become an Accredited SDA Assessor.
However, only specified professionals who satisfy the eligibility requirements established by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) are able to apply for accreditation as an Accredited SDA Assessor. Eligible professions include:
- Architects
- Building Surveyors
- Access Consultants
- Occupational Therapists
Full eligibility requirements are detailed in the Accredited SDA Assessor Course Information Handbook.
Course Fee: $800.00 + GST per person. The course fee includes all training materials and learning resources.
