Course Overview
The Essential Auslan – Conversations and Culture course provides participants with the practical skills and cultural understanding needed to communicate confidently in Auslan – the language of Australia’s Deaf community.
Developed and delivered in partnership with Auslan Hub, this flexible, engaging program reflects the outcomes of Certificate II in Auslan (PSP20218) and is supported by highly qualified Auslan educators.
Through self-paced online modules and live Zoom support, participants will learn core Auslan vocabulary, grammar, and cultural protocols, building both expressive and receptive signing skills.

Course Structure
The program covers key areas of Auslan language and Deaf culture, including:
• Everyday conversations in Auslan.
• Auslan grammar and sentence structure compared to English.
• Finger spelling, number systems, depicting signs, and non-manual features.
• Cultural awareness and Deaf community protocols.
Participants have up to 12 months to complete all learning and assessment tasks.

Assessment
Assessment includes:
• Live one-on-one Zoom assessments.
• Video submissions of signed tasks.
• Short written reflections or quizzes on Auslan concepts and Deaf culture.
Assessments are supportive, flexible, and designed to reflect real-life communication.

Course Fee – $2,400 + GST, this fee includes access to all learning materials, the Auslan Hub Student Portal, and live assessment sessions.

Certificate of Equivalency
On successful completion, participants will receive a Certificate of Equivalency issued by Access Institute. This certificate confirms achievement of skills and knowledge equivalent to Certificate II in Auslan, providing pathways to further study or RPL with a Registered Training Organisation.
