This one day course provides participants with an understanding of the wide range of universal access requirements related to Streetscapes and Activity Centres, that must be considered in planning, design, development, maintenance and upgrade of these spaces and facilities. The course includes:
- An overview of universal access and design principles
- An overview of relevant legislation, Australian Standards and relevant guidelines
- An overview of universal access issues – What’s and Why’s
- Practical perspectives relating to universal access barriers and solutions
- Universal Access Guidelines for Streetscapes and Activity Centres
- Utilising a variety of learning techniques, the course focuses on the wide range of challenges that are experienced by people with various access issues in utilising Streetscapes and Activity Centres. This includes mobility, vision, hearing, intellectual and cognitive issues. In addition the challenges faced by all users of streetscapes and activity centres are discussed and solutions identified.
The course also provides a practical framework for understanding relevant legislative requirements including the Disability Discrimination Act 1992, the Disability (Access to Premises – Buildings) Standards 2010 and the Australian Standards for Access and Mobility, as well as ‘best practice’ universal access guidelines.
The course identifies the key universal access elements to consider in Streetscapes and Activity Centres with an emphasis on universal access solutions. All of the important universal access considerations relating to these key elements are explored. 1 day course, 10.00am to 4.30pm.
Locations and Dates:
